Women Entrepreneurs: Building Business Out of Necessity

Women entrepreneurs in the relocation/moving business are almost unheard of in the industry. Newly divorced Mary Ellen Sheets didn't let that stop her. Times were tight and Sheets had three children to raise. When her boys wanted to earn some extra money moving people, Sheets took the idea for Two Men and a Truck, her creative entrepreneurial spirit, and built a successful business from the ground up, more out of necessity than to be a trailblazer in the moving industry. This mom, a former data analyst for the State of Michigan, used the old truck her husband left and manned it with her two sons, then ages 16 and 13. On the side of the truck read Two Men and a Truck. The simple name caught on quickly. Her truck soon became the recognizable "customer-friendly" local moving brand and now is one of the largest residential moving companies in the United States.
